1939
1939 – Twist-Ems® Birth year. The twist-tie was invented and patented.
1998
In 1998, the then President of T and T Industries, Inc., Peter Fulgoni, was diagnosed with a terminal form of cancer, and he decided to sell the company. An investment bank solicited bids from a number of buyers, and John Vaughan, the current President and sole owner, led a group of investors and completed a leveraged buy out of the company. Shortly thereafter, the company grew significantly by adding printing capacity, and further developing one of its other pioneering products, the Twist-Ems® Label Tie™ which now can be found bunching and branding items such as cilantro, parsley, spinach and lettuces in almost every grocery store and market in the United States.
2004
In 2004, company growth continued after we invented, trademarked, and applied for patent protection for the Twist-Ems® Rubber Band Tag™. This product is now the leading product in agriculture used for bunching and branding items which require rubber bands, including green onions, radishes, broccoli and leeks. In the past 16 years, the company has sold over a billion Twist-Ems® Rubber Band Tag™ to farmers and growers around the world.
2013
In 2013, the company acquired the assets of Associated Plastics, Inc., and began making all plastic twist-tie material used in a number of industries requiring bag closures, including applications for businesses in the bakery, coffee, and medical markets. Building on those assets and technology, the company today is fast becoming a leader in several of the markets using bag closures.
